Bentley Walker Activates 2,000th Terminal in Libya on Hughes Systems

October 9, 2013

GERMANTOWN, Md., Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes Europe, a subsidiary of Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world's leading provider of broadband satellite solutions and services, announced that Bentley Walker has activated its 2,000th terminal in Libya. Bentley's growth comes after just one year of operating its two Hughes HN and HX System NOCs (Network Operations Centres) over Avanti's Hylas 2 satellite, providing Ka-band broadband services to the local market.

This expansion in the Libyan market follows the successful provision of Ka-band broadband data and voice services to US military personnel in Afghanistan, augmenting existing Ku-band offerings with higher speeds at lower cost using a smaller dish. Bentley Walker operates the industry's leading platforms from Hughes—the HN System provides highly secure and highly available IP transport for data, and real-time video and voice; the HX platform optimizes satellite bandwidth utilization, delivering maximum flexibility and operational cost-effectiveness.

"We have a strong history of success working with Hughes," says Anthony Walker, CEO, Bentley Walker, "and are delighted that our confidence in the Middle East market is proving to be fully justified."

In another move to further expand its presence in the region, Bentley Walker has recently signed an agreement with Hughes Europe for a managed NOC to deploy new services in Northern Iraq.

"We have unrivalled experience as a provider of broadband services to the consumer market and we understand what individual users want," said Chris O'Dell, vice president, sales and marketing, Hughes Europe. "We have no doubt that the success achieved in Libya with Bentley Walker will act as a powerful springboard to future expansion in the Middle East."
