EchoStar Meets Highest Department of Defense Security Requirements for Satellite Services

December 7, 2010

ENGLEWOOD, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/07/10 -- EchoStar Satellite Services L.L.C., a subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), today announced that the company was recently rated compliant with the Department of Defense (DoD) Mission Assurance Category (MAC) I and Confidentiality Level (CL) Sensitive Information Assurance (IA) security requirements for commercial satellite communications services.

The rating, which resulted from an extensive independent audit of EchoStar's IA posture as conducted by CapRock Government Solutions, shows EchoStar to be compliant with the most stringent requirements for mission assurance as measured against the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) criteria for assessing the security posture of commercial satellite offerings to DoD customers.

"This independent validation, facilitated by CapRock, reflects compliance at the most stringent levels, giving EchoStar the ability to bid on all federal satcom projects," said Rick Mortellaro, senior vice president of EchoStar Satellite Services. "EchoStar is one of the leading U.S.-based providers of satellite services, with 10 satellites in operation and redundant uplink facilities."

"CapRock and EchoStar are fully committed to Information Assurance as a critical deliverable to our customers and as a principal enabler of both assured communications and mission assurance," said CapRock Government Solutions Director of Information Assurance Bill Janosky. "Our success in implementing and documenting a robust IA posture was principally fostered by EchoStar's solid grounding in the best engineering and operations practices at their facilities and within their infrastructure."

IA is the practice of managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes. The emphasis on IA in both military and civilian federal procurements is in keeping with national security policies requiring security measures to protect government networks and data.

A subsidiary of Harris Corporation, CapRock provides global managed communications services to government clients and delivers solutions to DoD, Intelligence Community, national security programs and other federal agency users that consistently meet or exceed IA requirements.
